Why we start every beginner here

CrossFit works because the movements are demanding. That is also why walking into a full-speed class on day one is the fastest way to get hurt or discouraged. The Foundations Course gives you six weeks to build the squat, hinge, press, and gymnastics positions properly, at a pace that lets your joints and connective tissue catch up with your enthusiasm.

With a hard cap of 6 athletes, your coach can actually watch every rep. That is the difference between learning a movement and guessing at it.

This course is for you if:

  • You have never done CrossFit, or tried it years ago
  • You are coming from a globo gym, running, or team sports
  • You are returning to training after an injury or a long break
  • You want to learn barbell lifts without guessing at form
  • You live or work in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, San Jose, or Milpitas

What you cover in six weeks

One session each Sunday morning at our Santa Clara gym.

  1. 1

Air squat, front squat & overhead squat

Movement screen, squat mechanics, and how we scale every workout to the athlete standing in front of us.

  2. 2

Deadlift, sumo deadlift high pull & kettlebell swing

Hip hinge mechanics and safe loading patterns that carry over to everything you lift.

  3. 3

Shoulder press, push press & push jerk

Overhead pressing progressions, midline stability, and shoulder position.

  4. 4

    Clean and snatch fundamentals

Olympic lifting taught in pieces, at a weight that lets you learn the positions properly.

  5. 5

    Gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, toes-to-bar & rope climb

Bodyweight progressions and the scaling options you will use in daily classes.

  6. 6

Foundations Course FAQs

Do I need to be fit before starting CrossFit at CrossFit Clay?

How long is the CrossFit Foundations Course?

Six classes, one per week, on six consecutive Sunday mornings at our Santa Clara gym. The full course is $300 total, which covers all six sessions.

When does the next Foundations Course start, and how do I join?

A new group starts roughly every six weeks. Because each one is capped at six athletes, we hold spots by email rather than open booking — email info@crossfitclay.com or call (669) 292-6092 and we will tell you the next start date and reserve you a place.

What happens after I finish Foundations?

You can join any regular CrossFit class at CrossFit Clay. Most graduates continue on the Part-Time or Unlimited membership, and we help you pick the option that matches your training schedule.

Can I skip Foundations if I have CrossFit experience?

Yes. If you have trained at another CrossFit affiliate you can book a drop-in or start a membership directly. Foundations exists for people who are new to CrossFit or returning after a long break.

Where is the course held?

At CrossFit Clay, 3260 De La Cruz Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95054 — minutes from Levi’s Stadium, Mission College, and the Great America Parkway tech corridor, with free parking in front of the building.
