How coaching works at CrossFit Clay

Every athlete starts with a movement assessment, so your coach knows which positions you own and which ones need work before you load a barbell. From there, the daily PRVN programming is scaled to you — same stimulus, different numbers.

Small classes are the whole point. A coach who can see all six athletes at once is a coach who can stop a bad rep before it becomes a bad habit, and that matters far more at rep 40 of a workout than it does at rep 1.

Coaching questions

What certifications do your CrossFit coaches hold?

Kuo is a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer and a 2021 San Francisco Throwdown champion. Aaron is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer with 15 years across powerlifting, bodybuilding and CrossFit. Both still compete, which is why coaching here is specific rather than generic.

How much individual attention will I get in a class?

Classes are deliberately small. A coach watches your warm-up, adjusts loads and movement standards for you personally, and scales the workout so it does the job it was written to do — whether that means adding weight or taking the barbell away entirely.

I have an old injury. Can I still train here?

In most cases yes. Tell us about it before your first session and your coach will substitute movements and adjust ranges of motion. We are coaches rather than clinicians, so if you are under a doctor or physical therapist we will work within what they have told you.
